summer 2004
this summer was full of great times (i cannot believe it
is over already)!  lots of camping, which marley really
enjoyed.  these first pics are from our trip to sequoia
national forest and kings canyon national park over the
fourth of july weekend.  we went with joon's brother, ian
and his wife liz (who was about five months pregnant).
this batch of pics is from our trip out to alpine lake, high in the sierras almost to nevada (south of tahoe) with our friends,
kelly and jay, and their two girls, tara and grace.  the weather was perfect!! jay and kelly were able to get up their early
enough on friday to get us a spot at the campground right on the lake (they took friday off....we had to work so we didn't
get up there until almost 11 friday night) and the location was great!  the kids had fun exploring the lake shore and the
campground and the adults had a nice relaxing time. more s'mores, hot chocolate...all the camping treats. joon, marley,
and i rented a canoe on saturday to check out the lake on.  i was a little worried with having him on a canoe (not that
anything awful would happen, just that we would all end up in the lake) so we paddled back to the campground to drop
off wallets, cell phones, and the digital camera and then hit the lake.  well, marley loved the canoe! we stayed out for
quite awhile and stopped and swam and just hung out.  it was great, and as i am typing this i am wishing we were back
there.  that has to be one of my favorite spots so far --it was just beautiful!
joon got sent down to work in san simeon (on the coast south of
big sur) so marley and i went down to visit for a weekend.  the
picture to the left was taken in big sur as i was driving through
just after the sun had set.  it was a nice weekend at the beach,
joon rented a kayak and had a lot of fun with that and marley and
i hung out on the beach and played in the sand.  it was a great
weekend getaway and it was really nice to spend some time at
the beach and be near the ocean.
the three pictures above are from our camping trip to spaulding lake which
is out by donner lake in the sierras.  we had another great weekend
although friday night was spent at a campground that was so close to the
80 you could hear the traffic, it was bizarre but all we could find late friday
night -- saturday found us at a much better spot.  the lake was fun but
definitely more of a "boat" lake than a "people" lake.  the lower pictures are
from august when marley and i went to illinois to visit my mom and
extended family.  it was a nice trip, we were able to see everyone and
enjoy visiting (we even got out on the river twice but it took a little
arm-twisting as the weather was pretty chilly for august).  my gramma was
there too which was an added bonus.  looks like marley might enjoy
climbing as much as his dad does!
so at this point it is the end of august (bless you if you have hung on this long!)
and marley has been in school for almost four months.  i had two weeks of
work to do at school while it was closed so dad and adam came out for about
week apiece to watch marley while joon and i had to work.  we were lucky that
they were able to come out and help us and we all managed to have tons of
fun while they were here!  we went into the city a bunch to see the sea lions at
fisherman's wharf, walked around north beach and china town, rode the cable
cars, took a boat ride out on the bay, rode the trains up in tilden, and went up
to muir woods.  we were sad to see them go, and marley especially as he
had really gotten used to hanging out with grandpa and bobo all day.  dad
flew home on labor day and that was the end of our summer!  back to school
for marley and work, work, work for joon and i.  we hope your summers were
just as nice!

this trip was amazing! the scenery was spectacular...enormous trees and beautiful views in sequoia and
then when we headed down into the canyon it just got better.  while we were camping down in the canyon
we encountered some thunderstorms; crazy loud thunder and lots of lightning and then some fast heavy
rain, but not for long.  marley enjoyed sleeping in the tent and cooking over the stoves as well as helping to
load and unload the car with our gear. he was also very interested in the fire and, of course, the s'mores at
night! ;)  he had a lot of fun with his aunt and uncle and we are all so happy to have had that time to spend
together.  ian and liz are very close to having their son, noah, and we are pretty excited about that too!
marley's first official cousin!
