two much fun!
marley's second birthday & other
happenings in may and june
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARLEY!!!
of course there was a lot of
excitement this may for
marleys second birthday.  his
grandpa and uncle adam flew
out to be here and loads of our
friends made it to the party.  we
set up a wall of paper in the
backyard for all the little ones
to paint on and they loved it!
adam made marley a fire truck
cake (he actually made two of
them) and grandpa decided to
get marley some fish for his
birthday...here is a picture of
marley and grandpa putting
together a bookshelf so the fish
tank had someplace to go.
these pictures are from some of the days we had before school
started.  the weather was getting warmer and we tried to get out
and spend as much time doing fun stuff together as we could.
(we also did fun stuff at home...you can see marley dressed up
here in a bunch of fabric scraps...) then it was time for the
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!
there he goes, off with his little lunchbox.  i almost forgot to
take a couple pictures before we left that morning and then i
realized that this was officially it, the beginning of school.
ian (joons brother) and liz got married the week that
marley started school and i started work.  marley and i
werent able to make it down to santa monica for the
wedding, but joon did.  they had a beautiful ceremony on
the beach at sunset followed by a dinner for family and
friends.  some more exciting news from the other kim
family is that they are expecting a baby!! marley will
have a cousin due this fall and they just learned that its
going to be a little boy. yay!!
joon has taken up fishing
after encouragement from
some of his friends and
wanted to spend fathers
day fishing this year.  so
we headed out to lake
chabot, packed a picnic
lunch, and rented a boat for
the afternoon.  what a
wonderful day it was! i
wasnt sure how long
marley would last on such
a small boat, but he loved
it! we spent four hours on
the boat putting around the
lake, relaxing in the sun,
and fishing....although, with
a noisy two year old in the
boat the fish werent really
biting, but it was fun
anyway.
twice a year the renaissance school has concerts put on by the
students.  these pictures are from the summer vocal recital, 'wind of
the western sea' in which marley has his singing debut! as you can
see, there is a dress code and when those two year olds took the
stage it was the sweetest thing i have ever seen.  the week prior to
the concert the school had an art show.  they rented out a gallery in
jack london square here in oakland and every child at that school had
at least one piece of art on display -- including marley, his piece was
entitled 'fire' and was a painting using acrylics, oranges and yellows.
the art show was amazing! the amount of effort that the school puts
into art and music is truly wonderful.
on a more general note, marley is loving school! he loves his teachers
and his classmates.  he is constantly talking about them at home and
about the work that he does at school.  its such a good feeling
knowing that he is enjoying being there...especially since he is there
full time, which not all of the two year olds are.  it has made my
transition into working much smoother knowing that he is having fun.
