The New England Regional group of the International Guild of Knot Tyers – North American Branch is alive and well and meeting on the
3rd Sunday of each month in Quincy, Massachusetts. I would like to thank Don Timmins and Caryn for providing a wonderful meeting
place. We have a “core group” of 10 or so individuals with many others attending as they are able. We have knottyers from all
disciplines. If you are interested in learning more about us, please enjoy our web space or send me an email at
shcoates54@comcast.net.
We will be planning an additional meeting during the Spring and Summer to allow us to “spread the love” of knots to various museums in
the New England Region. Last year, we visited the Salem Maritime Festival and the Newfound Lake Rendezvous. We look forward to
visiting: Mystic Seaport, Strawberry Banke, New Bedford Whaling Museum, Wooden Boat Show, Maine Maritime Museum, USS
Constitution Museum, etc. We are also considering a “Knotting Day” where we can sit and tie for the entire day. Our meetings are only
2hrs long and as many have expressed “I’ve just gotten warmed up and now I have to leave..!!”, so our thought is that a “Knotting Day”
would resolve this issue one time during the year.
As we are a fairly new group, we do not have much of an infrastructure set up – no quarterly publications, no dues, not too much of
anything. Our members contributions have so far been able to purchase a nice banner, some chairs and tables for our “shows”, and we
are able to provide project materials at no charge. A thanks to Dick Chisolm for donating the very first book for our group library. Once
again welcome, and please feel free to contact me anytime with questions, comments….
